This customer manufactures and sells building hardware, with an assortment consisting of hinges, window stops, window closures, fretting and access management.
The customer approached SSEB with a question regarding the shaft, a part of one of their window stops. Previously, this 3 meter long shaft was manually worked: the shaft was sized; the end was flattened and a hole was drilled.
Development, design and machine construction
SSEB was asked to design and develop a machine to automate the above process. SSEB started with a concept and mapped the various processing steps. Based on this a machine proposal was made. Following the customer’s approval, SSEB started construction and detailing. Once the drawings and parts lists were completed, SSEB purchased all components and assembled the entire machine, added the control cabinet, programmed it and took care of the overall automation.
Process automation and process improvement
The new machine automated the entire shaft machining process. The 3 meter long shaft is placed in the machine, after which it can be shortened as desired. After flattening and drilling the shaft is complete. Because the excess material is automatically re-used, there is very little material waste.
