Preliminary research tooling

Smart solutions for tooling thanks to unique approach

Developing follow, cutting and bending tools, transfer tools, deep-drawing tools and forming tools is the daily work of SSEB engineers. Sound preliminary research is always at the base of development. And even though unique within the tooling sector, it is standard at SSEB.

Our customers, toolmakers and OEMs, tell us time and again hoe unique they find the high quality of the preliminary research of SSEB engineers. This quality is the result of the huge practical know-how and experience of our engineers in the field of tooling. And we made it our policy to acknowledge technical impossibilities or problems in the preliminary research stage, to save time and money afterwards.

Smart solutions that meet your requirements with regard to performance, quality and cost (or more than that), don’t occur all of a sudden. The up-to-date expertise and experience of the SSEB engineers, and their unique material know-how are essential. But there is more: your work floor. Sparring with you and your team, practical knowledge and practical experience are equally important. That is why our engineers do not solely sit at their desks, but can regularly be found on the work floor of customers. This way of working feeds and stimulates them to develop smart solutions.

Involved from the idea stage

SSEB engineers prefer to become involved in a project during the idea stage. Customers also like this. The know-how of the SSEB engineers is needed to come to smart solutions, as is their sector-crossing experience in the field of tooling.

SSEB engineers never develop without sound preliminary research. Technical impossibilities or other problems that occur when preliminary research is not done, are thus virtually ruled out. And this saves much time and money.

Tooling development? Start with preliminary research!

During our vast preliminary research, all important aspects are discussed and recorded. In this stage, several important decisions are made concerning the further tooling development process. Standard chapters that appear in all SSEB preliminary research documents are:

– Goal
Your wishes and requirements regarding quality, performance, price and desired yield are discussed and recorded.

– Technical and legal requirements
Together with your team, we discuss the technical and legal requirements pertaining to the tooling and the product.

– Material characteristics
As no other, SSEB knows the characteristics of steel, aluminum and titanium. The vast know-how of materials, gathered in over 20 years, is incorporated in the SSEB systems. You can benefit from this unique material know-how. Your SSEB engineer can tell you everything about specific material characteristics that are applicable to your project.

– Manufacturing methods
This chapter describes the manufacturing method that, during preliminary research, comes out best. Our SSEB engineers will share the assessments and calculations that result from this stage with you and your team. All know-how is needed to arrive at the best result.

– Cost control
Very important, how can we, while guaranteeing the required result, keep production costs as low as possible? SSEB will indicate how to control costs in subsequent steps in development and construction.

State-of-the-art tooling software

During preliminary research and the development of the tooling, SSEB tooling engineers have at their disposal state-of-the-art software for e.g. feasibility studies, strength calculations, simulations and more. Some of the programs SSEB engineers use are Catia, Siemens NX, Siemens PLM, AutoForm and CoDeSys.
