Tooling engineering for Boeing 787 engine
The Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 is a turbofan airplane engine, used in the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Specialist know-how in AutoForm simulations and tooling is required for tooling engineering the specific parts of this engine.
The assignment to develop this tooling arrived at SSEB via a customer specialized in manufacturing airplane parts and innovation. SSEB had previously already worked with this specialist in the aerospace sector, who recognizes SSEB’s know-how and experience to develop the required specialist tooling.
Follow-on, cutting and bending tools, deep-drawing tools and forming tools
The tools to be developed for the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine include follow-on, cutting and bending tools, deep-drawing tools and forming tools. In an early stage, SSEB applied AutoForm simulations for the tooling. These simulations are essential as they reduce the number of tooling tests as well as the time required for try-outs.
Well executed AutoForm simulations result in the highest quality in tooling construction and maximum reliability in production. Moreover, machine standstill and reject percentage are reduced considerably, saving time and money. We are currently in the process of executing very detailed simulations.
Following the AutoForm simulations we will advise the customer on the tooling construction. Next, we will start drawing and manufacturing the tooling. After a try-out the tooling will be commissioned at the customer.
